Theme:
Sailing and sailing boats
Ideas:
I will theme my next shoot around sailing and boats. I will go down to a marina and take photos of the moored boats. I will go to either darthaven or dart marina most likely dart marina as it is smaller but has bigger and prettier yachts. I could go out on my RIB and take images of boats sailing but this may be impractical in the 1 week time frame we have. I could take photos of boats on the lift at dathaven marina as you can get an idea of the size of its keel. This is much better on modern yachts and racing yachts at these have long and slender torpedo keels. I could take pictures of the cleats and the knots people tie on them such as an OXO or a Bowline. I could also take images of the side of moored yachts this will show a crisscross of spring and mooring lines going from pontoon to boat and back again. If I get a chance I could go up the mast of a boat on a boson’s chair and take an image down at the deck showing the scale of the mast and how insignificant people are in comparison to the rest of the world. I could take images of winches on boats using aperture to make the land and sea appear out of focus. My images will be based around the work of Ian Roman.

Contact Sheet
In this shoot I went down to dart haven marina to take photos of the boats. My original plan was to go onto the pontoons and take images of the boats close up but unfortunately as I’m not a birth holder at the marina I was not allowed to go onto the pontoon for obvious security reasons. I used my bigger lens to get better images of the boats from a distance. I should have given myself more time so I would have been able to go to Dart marina as I am a birth holder there. This would have meant that I could have gone close up to the boats which would have been much closer to my original plan. For my next shoot over the half term I ideally want to go sailing and take action shots maybe by chasing behind the sailing boat in my RIB and taking shots from different angles. I really want to take some photos from the top of the mast on a bosons chair this would give a really cool effect as it would show how insignificant people are. I could have taken more images of the boats out of the water as many people don’t really know what the underside of a boat looks like and if the boat has just been lifted I can take macro shots of the sea life on the bottom such as barnacles etc. I was hoping for better weather to take go out and take my shoot in but I think the gloom and the rain of the images gave a really good effect as when your sailing its most probably raining.
